Event Info
Members are invited to an exclusive online advance listening session featuring legendary singer-songwriter and Bob Dylan Center guest curator Elvis Costello on the eve of the release of the 49th anniversary edition of his classic 1977 album “My Aim Is True.” This highly anticipated collection features a fresh remaster of the original LP — widely considered one of the greatest debuts of all time — packaged in a lavish five-disc box set featuring 104 tracks, half of which are previously unreleased.
Costello will join Bob Dylan Center Senior Director Steven Jenkins for a conversation about his earliest years as a songwriter, in the studio and onstage; the making of “My Aim Is True” with California-based combo Clover; the forming of his extraordinary band The Attractions; and the discovery of home recordings, demos and alternate takes of songs such as “Alison,” “Watching the Detectives” and “(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes” that tell the full story of Declan MacManus’s evolution into the artist we know as Elvis, his aim still true 49 years later.
In addition, Costello will provide commentary on select tracks from the box set. Bob Dylan Center members will be among the very first to hear these recordings prior to the edition’s official release.

About
Elvis Costello
For five decades and counting, Elvis Costello has sustained his singular stature as a singer, songwriter, performer, producer and musical omnivore of unparalleled brilliance. He has traversed a dizzying array of genres across more than thirty studio albums. For the Bob Dylan Center, Costello has utilized his encyclopedic musical knowledge as the inaugural curator of the Perspectives Jukebox Experience in the Columbia Records Gallery; performed with his band The Imposters during the center’s opening weekend in May 2022; participated in the center’s multi-artist 50th anniversary concert celebration of Dylan’s 1975 album “Blood on the Tracks;” engaged in an onstage conversation and performance at a screening of rare Dylan films in New York City; and will take part in another multi-artist special event in early 2027. His current favorite Dylan song is “’Cross the Green Mountain.”
