Event Info

Bob Dylan Center, Magic City Books and The University of Tulsa's Oklahoma Center for the Humanities will present a conversation with music scholar Kevin Dettmar to celebrate the release of his new book “Punk in 50 Pieces: Punk Rock, Post-Punk, New Wave, and the Five Years that Changed Pop Music Forever.”

Moderated by Bob Dylan Center Senior Director Steven Jenkins, the conversation will cover five decades of punk history, the musical genre’s (and its outgrowths’) cultural impact, and Dettmar’s selection of fifty key songs, ranging from “Anarchy in the U.K” by The Sex Pistols and “Boys Don't Cry” by The Cure to “We Got the Beat” by The Go-Go’s and “Alison” by Elvis Costello (one of the center’s guest curators).

Dettmar will field questions from the audience and sign copies of his book, which will be on sale at the event and ahead of time as of September 8 at Magic City Books.
